SUMMARY:What Should You Cover in a Selenium Coding Test
DESCRIPTION:While there are quite a few tools to automate web browser interaction\, Selenium is perhaps the most commonly used. It is primarily used to write scripts for actions users might take on your website\, testing site functionality much faster than you could by hand. A short Selenium test might confirm that the browser can load a page at all\, while a more complex test could automate an entire journey from log-in to a shopping cart. But\, what should you cover in a Selenium coding test? Join our webinar on April 23 to learn from seasoned professional Alex Siminiuc. Alex has over 20 years of experience in testing\, and has worked with companies such as Best Buy\, Trader Corp.\, YVR\, BCAA\, and Boeing Canada. \nAgenda:\n5:45-6:00 pm – Join the webinar\n6:00-7:00 pm – Presentation and Q&A

SUMMARY:Understanding Code Refactoring from a Tester's Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The term ‘Refactoring’ is mainly used to indicate code cleanup and/or redesign. Refactoring of code is an age-old practice\, and it has picked up momentum with teams increasingly following shorter and iterative development cycles. Project teams often have limited time to implement new functionality or to extend the existing functionality – and working with code that is clean\, easy to understand and maintain certainly goes a long way in meeting the expected\, often tight\, deadlines. \nIn this session\, we will:\n– Briefly review the definition of refactoring\n– Discuss the need for code refactoring\n– Answer the most important question – As a tester\, why do you need to know about refactoring? \nAbout our Speaker:\nNeha is an experienced Senior Manager with extensive experience in Process Improvement\, Quality Control and Quality Assurance. Over the past 12+ years\, she has acquired a wide range of knowledge and experience in various domains like Education\, Customer Service\, Aerospace\, Customer Experience Management\, Banking and E-commerce. Within Cymax Group\, Neha plays a significant role in the development and execution of cross-departmental initiatives to support long-term corporate objectives geared towards operational excellence. In addition\, she also leads and manages entire team of manual testers and automation engineers. In her free time\, she likes to read books\, write articles\, go for walks and volunteer with various professional and non-profit organizations. \nAgenda:\n5:30-6:00 pm – Registration & Refreshments\n6:00-7:00 pm – Presentation and Q&A\n7:00-7:30 pm – Networking

SUMMARY:Understanding Agile – A Tester’s Perspective
DESCRIPTION:More organizations are now adopting the Agile software development approach and are moving away from traditional software development models\, such as the Waterfall model. Along with this shift\, the role of tester has evolved as well. In Agile\, expectations from a tester are no longer limited to testing\, and testers are required to be active\, contributing team members during the entire duration of iteration. These additional roles and responsibilities may be overwhelming but\, in reality\, this change can be really empowering for testers. \nIn this presentation\, we will talk about: \n\nRole of testers in Waterfall software development vs. Agile software development\nHow the Agile framework can be empowering for testers\nCommon challenges faced by testers\n\nSpeaker: Neha Batta\, Quality Assurance Manager at Cymax \nNeha is currently working as the Quality Assurance Manager at Cymax and has worked in a variety of roles over the past 11+ years. Within Cymax\, Neha leads and manages the entire team of manual testers and automation engineers\, in addition to acting as Incident Manager and liaison for outsourcing partners. \nLinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/neha-b-a94534a5/

SUMMARY:VanQ: Endpoint Testing with Gatling
DESCRIPTION:Endpoints testing is becoming an important piece in the full spectrum of testing\, and there are many of tools to help with this. \nAt this meetup\, we’re going to take a look at Gatling for testing endpoints. Using Gatling allows us to incorporate endpoints testing into an existing scala-based test automation framework. And since Gatling itself is a tool for load testing\, you can extend your script to perform load testing as well. \nJoin us this month to learn how to apply this in practice. \nSpeaker\nLarry Ng – Director of Quality at Visier \nLarry has been working as a QA professional for 17 years. In most of those years\, he has been involved in testing projects in a wide variety of industries as a consultant. He started managing QA and Release for a software company in Vancouver 4 years ago and has joined Visier very recently. Larry is passionate about all aspects of testing\, especially at the technical level focusing on automation\, performance and reliability\, and building test harnesses. \nAgenda \n5:30pm – Doors open \n5:30-6:15pm – Networking\, mingling and refreshments \n6:15-7:00pm – Presentation \n7:00-7:15pm – Q&A \n\n  \nJoin the VanQ Meetup Group here: Vancouver Testing and Quality Assurance Group \nAbout VanQ: VanQ is a Metro Vancouver community group that encourages the exchange of software quality assurance and testing knowledge and fosters networking among meeting participants. SUMMARY:VanQ: Pushing to Production 10 Times a Day
DESCRIPTION:At Hootsuite we ship code to production multiple times a day; deployment is automated and kicked off and monitored by developers.  In this environment how does QA help contribute to safe deployments with high quality and minimal bugs?  In this talk Mike will discuss what Hootsuite’s process is\, what is working and some things that have proven not to work. \nBio\nMike Hrycyk has been trapped in the world of quality since he first did user acceptance testing 17 years ago.  He has survived all of the different levels and a wide spectrum of technologies and environments to become the quality dynamo that he is today.  Mike believes in creating a culture of quality throughout software production and tries hard to create teams that hold this ideal and advocate it to the rest of their workmates.  Mike is currently the Director\, Quality for Hootsuite but has previously worked in parking\, manufacturing\, web photo retail\, music delivery kiosks and at a railroad.  Intermittently he blogs about quality at www.qaisdoes.com.

SUMMARY:VanQ: Rethinking Testing – Moving to the Cloud
DESCRIPTION:As the summer comes to an end we thought a fitting topic for September’s Meetup would be the Cloud! Sean Wilson will be taking us on a journey of moving testing to the cloud. \nThe widespread cry of; “To the cloud!” is on the lips of many software companies. “Cloud” has become the latest in a series of buzzwords that marketers and business leaders parrot around the office\, and “cloud ready” is now a checkbox on every RFP. \nBut what does it mean for software teams when the boss comes in and asks how long until they are “cloud compatible”? Does our job change when we are asked to test our applications either partially or fully deployed in the cloud? How about when we are asked to use cloud based testing tools to validate our existing applications? \nAs Quality Assurance professionals we are expected to have answers to these questions\, or at least have a clue about how to get the answers. So how do we cut through all the jargon and understand what\, if any changes we need to make? \nIn my talk I’ll describe what “cloud” really means\, together we’ll look at different types of cloud testing\, and then we’ll discuss various challenges this new paradigm presents.
