Companies have turned to agile software development in pursuit of faster release cycles and have embraced technologies like cloud and mobile. Yet even as they strive towards continuous integration\, delivery and deployment\, some companies ignore the importance of automated testing as part of this process. Fast releases and support for multiple devices increase manual testing efforts and as a result manual testing becomes a bottleneck in the release cycle. The only way to support a rapid cadence of releases on multiple devices is to automate testing. \nAt Optimus’ test automation breakfast event we will speak with a panel of local technology executives who will share their experiences and discuss how to Implement Test Automation in a DevOps\, Cloud and Mobile World. Discussion topics will include test automation processes\, tools and best practices. \nPanelist Bios:\nStuart Ashman\, QA Director\, Vision Critical\nStuart is currently working as the QA Director for Vision Critical and has worked in a variety of roles over the past 20+ years\, almost all of which had testing or QA as part of them. SUMMARY:VanQ: Pushing to Production 10 Times a Day
DESCRIPTION:At Hootsuite we ship code to production multiple times a day; deployment is automated and kicked off and monitored by developers.  In this environment how does QA help contribute to safe deployments with high quality and minimal bugs?  In this talk Mike will discuss what Hootsuite’s process is\, what is working and some things that have proven not to work. \nBio\nMike Hrycyk has been trapped in the world of quality since he first did user acceptance testing 17 years ago.  He has survived all of the different levels and a wide spectrum of technologies and environments to become the quality dynamo that he is today.  Mike believes in creating a culture of quality throughout software production and tries hard to create teams that hold this ideal and advocate it to the rest of their workmates.  Mike is currently the Director\, Quality for Hootsuite but has previously worked in parking\, manufacturing\, web photo retail\, music delivery kiosks and at a railroad.  Intermittently he blogs about quality at www.qaisdoes.com.

SUMMARY:VanQ: Rethinking Testing – Moving to the Cloud
DESCRIPTION:As the summer comes to an end we thought a fitting topic for September’s Meetup would be the Cloud! Sean Wilson will be taking us on a journey of moving testing to the cloud. \nThe widespread cry of; “To the cloud!” is on the lips of many software companies. “Cloud” has become the latest in a series of buzzwords that marketers and business leaders parrot around the office\, and “cloud ready” is now a checkbox on every RFP. \nBut what does it mean for software teams when the boss comes in and asks how long until they are “cloud compatible”? Does our job change when we are asked to test our applications either partially or fully deployed in the cloud? How about when we are asked to use cloud based testing tools to validate our existing applications? \nAs Quality Assurance professionals we are expected to have answers to these questions\, or at least have a clue about how to get the answers. So how do we cut through all the jargon and understand what\, if any changes we need to make? \nIn my talk I’ll describe what “cloud” really means\, together we’ll look at different types of cloud testing\, and then we’ll discuss various challenges this new paradigm presents.
