SSRS Reports for Operations Management Software Case Study

The Client

The client is a leading provider of marine dry bulk cargo handling and delivery services and the world’s largest owner and operator of self-unloading vessels.

The Challenge

Our client is in the process of replacing their legacy operations management software with Integrated Maritime Operations System (IMOS), an industry leading application. They already have a series of reports coming from their legacy system that their business depends on; therefore, they need to recreate these reports in the new system.

How Optimus Helped

We suggested that SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) will be a great option to develop the reports because the client is already running SQL Servers and SSRS reports can be easily integrated with SharePoint. Various other features like report scheduling, emailing the report as an attachment, can be accomplished with this approach.

We then began our customized report development process for the client with templates from report design, to requirements gathering, to project tracking. We worked with the client team to set-up the required infrastructure including test servers and staging servers where end-users can review the final reports.

When the initial setup was complete, we were able to begin capturing requirements via overlapping session with the client’s team.

Our prior experience writing reports for IMOS and working with transportation and marine clients helped us ramp up quickly on the requirements and where the data is located in IMOS.

We used Visual Studio integrated with TFS to develop report and maintain code. SSRS report server was used as a report publishing portal.

Client saw the value in the report development process, documentation and technology. They are now able to transition from their legacy system to the new environment as their business needs are met with these rebuilt reports.
